They are little wooden blocks with text on them. They're easy to assemble because it's just a matter of stacking the little books and tying the included yarn to them. They do look OK, but their size takes away a little of their impact because they're so small they're hard to read!

Its clamps on either end, which need brass nails, which are not provided, is another disappointing feature. The nails with the clips on each end are also visible. A picture hanger-style attachment that is hidden on the rear is something I would have preferred. You get those clips, even if the image on does not display them at all.
